SIT summers count

Staff in Training years count as experience when you join paid staff at 16

Join the staff.  Make a difference.  Become part of the Camp Alexander family.

A summer on staff at Camp Alexander is more than a job or a volunteer opportunity. It’s a chance to become part of a team, make lifelong friends, and help create the experiences that Scouts remember for years.

Whether you grew up coming to Camp Alexander or this will be your first summer at camp, there’s a place for you here. Staff members work together, learn together, and support one another while developing real-world skills in leadership, communication, teaching, problem solving, teamwork, and responsibility.

You’ll work hard. You’ll probably get dirty. You’ll have some long days. But you’ll also share campfires, inside jokes, traditions, and experiences with people who quickly become much more than coworkers.

Ages 14-15?  Start with Staff in Training

Our Staff in Training (SIT) program gives 14–15-year-olds the opportunity to experience what it’s really like to be part of the Camp Alexander staff.

SITs serve as volunteers, but they aren’t just standing on the sidelines. They work alongside our regular staff, participate in staff training, learn how camp operates, and develop the same core skills expected of a Camp Alexander staff member: leadership, teamwork, communication, responsibility, customer service, and working with Scouts.

It’s an opportunity to contribute to camp today while gaining the experience and confidence to step into a full staff role in the future.

You may start the summer as an SIT. You’ll finish it as part of the staff family.

Staff FAQ

Do I have to work the whole summer?

No, but all seven weeks are preferred. Any time off beyond the regular days off needs to be arranged ahead of time with the camping director.

Is there pay?

Yes. Pay depends on your role. Staff in Training summers count as experience, so former SITs are paid as returning staff when they join at 16.

Where do I sleep and eat?

Housing and meals are included. Lodging is assigned by age and gender, generally in Staff Row, Lower Elks, the Staff Cabin, and the JDons cabins.

Do I get time off?
