Your unit leader signs Scouts up for classes in MyCouncil when your week’s merit badge registration opens in late April. Your unit’s final payment has to be in first, so a late payment pushes back when you can sign up, and popular classes fill fast. The exact date for your week and the class fee deadline are on the Registration page, and the merit badge registration guide walks through every screen.
- Pick classes: The Merit Badges page lists every merit badge and rank class by program area. Filter by your Scout’s age, Eagle-required, no extra fee, or classes they can finish at camp, and open Details for prerequisites, what to do before camp, and the official requirements.
- Check the times: The merit badge schedule shows which session each class meets in, along with class size, fee and ages. A few classes take a double session.
- Plan your week: In Plan your week, each Scout ranks their top three classes for every session. It checks age limits and double sessions and adds up fees. Print the choices or email the link to your unit leader, so there’s a backup ready when a class fills. It doesn’t sign anyone up. The last page of the printable schedule is a paper copy of the same worksheet, and unit leaders can paste every Scout’s link into the table at the bottom of Plan your week.
- Plan with your Scouts: A short planning session with the unit leader and SPL helps each Scout pick a good mix. We recommend some fun, outdoor-only badges, not just Eagle-required ones.
- Workbooks: Optional, but helpful. You can find them at meritbadge.org. They’re also an easy way to show staff completed prerequisites.
- Supplies and costs: Each program area has the materials for its classes. Some classes have an extra fee, listed on the Merit Badges page and the schedule.
