Draft: may still change
Mile Swim is a BSA award, not a merit badge. Scouts with strong swimming skills can earn it by taking part in the conditioning swims during the week and then completing the full mile.

Getting ready
Swim test
Pass the Scouting America Swimmer Classification before the first class: before camp with a certified tester, or at the swim check at the pool after check-in on Sunday. Not sure your Scout will pass? Test before camp, so classes can be changed before you arrive.
What to upload if you test at home
A Scout who hasn't passed it can't take the class.
